Apple Watch Series 5 v/s Series 4: What's different?
Alongside a trio of new iPhones, Apple has also upgraded its wearable to launch the Apple Watch Series 5. The new smartwatch arrives as a follow up to last year's Series 4 model with a similar design, some added features, and a couple of new case finishes. If you're planning to buy either of them, here are all the differences you should know about.
At a glance
Like the Series 4, the new Apple Watch Series 5 also comes in 44mm and 40mm sizes and exchangeable straps. You can also choose from the new titanium and ceramic cases or the regular aluminum and stainless steel options. However, the major change is a new Always-On Retina display which offers upto 1000-nits of brightness and a resolution of 368x448 pixels (44mm model).
You can customize Watch Series 5 the way you like
Apple has introduced a new Apple Watch Studio wherein you can customize the Series 5 model in any way you like. The platform allows you to pick the case of your choice and lets you pair it with any band available in the Watch Studio.
Under the hood
The Series 5 model is powered by an improved S5 chipset, a W3 wireless connectivity chip, and 32GB of built-in storage (upto 16GB on Series 4). It also gets a second-generation optical sensor and a built-in compass. However, the new variant retains some of the features of its predecessor like the digital crown, haptic feedback, electrical heart rate sensor, altimeter, accelerometer, and light sensor.
New features and apps
Like the Apple Watch Series 4, the new iteration continues to offer features like ECG, Fall Detection, Activity tracking, Apple Music support, Apple Pay, Siri support and a built-in App Store. But as additional features, the Series 5 also comes with a new Noise app which alerts high decibel levels, an app for tracking menstrual cycle, and International Emergency Calling and Emergency SOS feature.
Pricing: The key factor
In India, the Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) starts at Rs. 40,900, while the Series 5 (GPS+Cellular) begins at Rs. 49,900. The Series 4 model was also launched at the same price but you can get it on discount via online retailers like Amazon and Flipkart. Notably, the Series 5 will go on sale in the country from September 27.
