Apple Watch Series 4 v/s 3: Which one is better?
If you are looking to buy an Apple wearable, chances are you must be confused between the all-new and more expensive Apple Watch Series 4 and last year's Apple Watch 3 which is now relatively cheaper. Both models look sort of similar, but there are a number of differences between them that you should understand to make the right choice. Here's our comparison.
Apple Watch Series 4 v/s Series 3: At a glance
Available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, the Apple Watch Series 4 is marginally bigger than the Series 3 which comes in 38mm and 42mm models. Moreover, with rounded edges and narrower bezels, the Series 4's display is bigger and sharper than its predecessor. That said, both models have touchscreen OLED panels and are waterproof upto 50m. Winner: Series 4 for its better design.
Health and activity features
In terms of health-related features, the Apple Watch Series 4 has a couple of advantages - an electrocardiogram feature (available in the US and UK) that allows it to monitor atrial fibrillation and a fall detection feature. Further, both wearables offer activity tracking modes for running, swimming, etc. and can track sleep, calories burned, as well as heart rate. Winner: You decide.
Under the hood stuff
The Apple Watch Series 4 runs on a new S4 chipset which is twice as fast as the processor on Series 3. The new model also has 50% louder speakers, an all-new Digital Crown with haptic feedback, and all-day battery life. Further, both iterations have built-in GPS, support the latest software, and offer up to 16GB of storage for apps. Winner: Series 4.
Pricing: The key factor
The Apple Watch Series 4 comes at a starting price of Rs. 40,900 for the 40mm GPS-only model and goes up to Rs. 80,900 for the top-end 44mm Cellular+GPS variant with Milanese Loop. In comparison, the Series 3 is available at as low as Rs. 27,999 for the 38mm Aluminum case GPS-only model.
So, which one should you buy?
As an upgraded model, the Apple Watch Series 4 is evidently more powerful and significantly more expansive than its predecessor. It offers a newer design with a bigger screen, the noteworthy ECG and fall detection features, and a more advanced chipset. But if you can settle without these features, we think Apple Watch Series 3 is a good buy at the current discounted prices.
