New Delhi doctor conducts bariatric surgery using Apple Vision Pro
In a pioneering medical procedure, Dr. Mohit Bhandari from Pristyn Care in New Delhi utilized the Apple Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset, to perform a live bariatric surgery. The patient was a 155kg male, suffering from sleep apnea syndrome and high blood pressure. The surgery involved a sleeve gastric bypass and a Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal (SADI) procedure, lasting approximately 40 minutes.
Apple Vision Pro enhances precision
The Apple Vision Pro provided the surgical team with an immersive 3D environment, allowing them to visualize complex anatomical structures with extreme clarity. This technological advancement significantly improved the precision of the surgery, minimized risks, and enhanced the patient outcome. Vaibhav Kapoor, co-founder of Pristyn Care, hailed this as a "significant milestone" in revolutionizing surgical procedures.
Apple Vision Pro's impact on the future of surgery
Dr. Bhandari stated that technology like Vision Pro opens doors for more "possibilities in surgical precision and patient outcomes." Despite its high cost of ₹2.88 lakh in India, the device is revolutionizing healthcare by offering high-resolution images and real-time data during surgeries. The headset has previously been used in various medical procedures worldwide since its launch last year by Apple.
