Apple iOS 14 will bring a revamped multitasking pane

    What's the story

Now that the first developer preview of Android 11 is here, the world has started gearing up for its prime competitor - the iOS 14.

The launch of the Apple-designed operating system is still months away, but thanks to the folks at 91mobiles and tipster Ben Geskin, we have got a glimpse of the upcoming OS and a major change coming with it.

    Redesign

    Redesigned iPad-like multitasking pane

In a video shared by Geskin, 91mobiles has shown, what appears to be, an iPhone 11 Pro Max running an internal development build of iOS 14.

The home screen of the OS isn't shown, but we do get a look at a revamped multitasking layout.

It looks similar to that of the iPad and shows four thumbnails of open apps at once.

    Information

    Swiping reveals more apps

If more than four apps are opened, the revamped pane will show the remaining apps on the left. This means the batch of four apps that appears at a time could also be swiped right to reveal the rest of the apps on iOS 14.

    Change

This looks like a big change over current layout

The change depicted in the video in question marks a big revamp over the current multitasking pane, which shows a single row of large thumbnails depicting iOS apps.

Notably, just like the current iOS, the revamped pane also requires the same swipe-up gesture for closing an app.

Further, it seems like the newer option will also let users keep apps locked or pinned.

    Details

Apple may let users choose their multitasking style

Geskin also tweeted a few screenshots of the feature, along with one showing that Apple would let users choose from four different app switcher styles: Grid switcher, Deck switcher, Minimum Viable switcher, and automatic

The layout shown here appears to be the Deck kind, but we are not sure if it would also bring the split-screen capabilities we have seen on the iPad.

    Launch

iOS 14 will debut at WWDC 2020 in June

While the video indicates iOS 14 could debut with some big changes, we can't be completely sure about its authenticity.

Some have said that this could be a jailbreak tweak, but the working of the redesigned interface looks way more polished than a jailbreak tweak.

Hopefully, we will learn more about this as the launch of iOS 14, expected at WWDC 2020, nears.
