Apple to hold 'special event' on May 7
Apple has announced a "special Apple Event" set for May 7 at 7:00am PT/10:00am ET. This announcement comes on the heels of the successful launch of the Vision Pro in 2024. The tech giant has started sending out invites to media representatives for this online event, with an image of the Apple Pencil featured prominently, hinting at iPads being the main focus.
What to expect from the upcoming iPad Pro?
The upcoming event will showcase enhanched iPad Pro, marking its most notable upgrades since the M1 revamp in 2021. Rumors suggest that these improvements will include an OLED display, a slight size increase to 13-inch for the larger model, an advanced M3 chipset, and a horizontal shift of its front-facing camera. Speculation also surrounds the introduction of a new Apple Pencil and a redesigned Magic Keyboard with aluminum construction and an expanded trackpad.
Apple may also unveil updated iPad Air models
In addition to the iPad Pro, updated iPad Air models can be unveiled at the event, including a larger model with a 12.9-inch display. A recent report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that stock levels of the current iPad Air have been dwindling at Apple's retail outlets, indicating an imminent upgraded model. If Apple does introduce a 13-inch iPad Pro, it would be their largest display size yet.
Apple to launch new iPads after 18-month hiatus
Notably, both the upcoming iPad Pro models are projected to feature an OLED display, replacing the current micro LED panel for enhanced brightness and superior viewing quality. The unveiling of these new iPads marks the end of a nearly 18-month quiet period for Apple, during which no tablets were launched.
