Apple's AI revolution for iPhone: Check top iOS 18 features
Apple is set to launch a range of new artificial intelligence (AI) features in its forthcoming iOS 18 update, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The tech giant's AI strategy, known as 'Project Greymatter,' aims to offer practical tools for everyday applications like Safari, Photos, and Notes. These enhancements are expected to be revealed at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in two weeks.
AI features to enhance user experience in iOS 18
Among the AI-powered features slated for iOS 18 are photo retouching, voice memo transcription, automatic reply suggestions for messages and emails, and auto-generated emojis based on text. Other improvements include enhanced web search in Safari, improved Spotlight search functionality, more natural interactions with Siri, an advanced version of Siri for Apple Watch, and smart recaps of missed notifications, among other highlights and enhancements.
iOS 18 to offer enhanced customization options
In addition to AI tools, iOS 18 will also provide users with the ability to change app icon colors. For example, social icons can be turned blue or finance icons green. This customization is currently only possible through custom shortcuts. Furthermore, users will have more freedom to place apps anywhere on the home screen grid, similar to widgets, according to Gurman's report.
Apple's emphasis on privacy in iOS 18
Gurman noted that AI features requiring less processing power will run on-device, while more demanding ones will operate via the cloud. This approach underscores Apple's emphasis on privacy advantages. The new iOS 18 is set to be unveiled at the WWDC conference on June 10 with a focus on AI features. Many of these new AI tools might be marketed as a "preview" in beta versions before the official launch in September.
