Apple TV 4K gets smarter with new 'InSight' feature
Apple's TV 4K streaming device is set to receive a significant update in tvOS 18, including a new feature called InSight. This innovative tool is designed to enhance the user experience by integrating with the iPhone, a device commonly used by viewers. The primary function of InSight is to provide real-time information about actors or songs in a particular scene, eliminating the need for viewers to pause or switch apps.
Functionality and user interface
InSight operates as a modal box that can be activated from the bottom of the screen, while watching a film or TV show. It offers two primary data points: photos and names of actors on screen along with their character names, and information about any song playing in the scene. Users can click on an actor's name to view their full filmography and add any listed music directly to their Apple Music library.
iPhone integration enhances accessibility
A unique feature of InSight is its integration with the iPhone. When using the iPhone as a remote for Apple TV 4K, InSight information will appear on the smartphone's display. This allows users to access InSight without obstructing their view on the TV. The integration of this feature with iPhone aims to streamline viewers' experience by eliminating interruptions during viewing sessions.
InSight currently limited to Apple TV+ content
Currently, InSight is only available for Apple TV+ content. It is being tested in the latest tvOS 18 beta version and there are hopes that it will expand to support more streaming services in future updates. This expansion could potentially enhance user experience across a wider range of platforms, further solidifying Apple's commitment to improving viewer engagement through innovative technology.
