Apple's top-of-the-line Mac Pro unit costs Rs. 40 lakh. Wow!
Apple's fancy new cheesegrater, the Mac Pro, has finally started shipping in the US. The machine comes at a base price of $5,999 (Rs. 4 lakh), but what if you configure it into the top-of-the-line Mac on offer? Well, any hardware upgrade results in a price increase, but in this particular case, the price that comes out is just insanely high. Take a look.
Most powerful Mac will come at $59,000
The base model of Mac Pro, without XDR display, offers a modest 32GB RAM, an octa-core Intel Xeon CPU, Radeon Pro 580X graphics, and 256GB SSD. Now, if you want to upgrade this into a top-of-the-line model, you'd have to throw in the most powerful hardware Apple has on offer for this machine. This takes the price beyond $59,000, which is Rs. 40 lakh.
Why such a drastic increase in price?
The increase in price is staggering here but you also get the specs for it. Essentially, for this price, the Mac Pro gets a 2.5GHz Intel Xeon W processor with 28 cores, 56 threads, and Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz ($7,000+), 1.5TB of 2933MHz RAM ($25,000+), and 4TB of SSD ($1,400+). After this, you also have to add the display, graphics, and other essentials.
Graphics alone add $10,800 to the total price
The aforementioned hardware takes the price to $39,399 and when you add four 32GB graphics cards in the tow, there's an increase of $10,800. Finally, you add the other essentials for Mac Pro like one top-end Pro Display XDR monitor ($5,999+), its stand ($999+), Afterburner accelerator card ($2,000+), and wheels for the Mac Pro ($400+), taking the total price of the machine to $59,597.
Now, you have the single most expensive Mac ever made
The final $59,597 price makes this custom-made Mac Pro the most expensive (and obviously powerful) Mac ever. If you compare it with other high-end Apple machines, there's a drastic difference. For instance, the best configuration of iMac Pro, which was the previous most expensive Mac, maxed out at $14,299, while the top-end model of the new 16-inch MacBook Pro sits just at $6,099.
