Apple's upcoming HomePod may feature a display, AI features
Apple is reportedly developing a unique 'Home Hub' device, internally referred to as the "HomeAccessory" or J490. The information, revealed by an anonymous source to 9to5Mac, suggests that this innovative product will combine features of a HomePod and an iPad. The device will sport a square touch display and draw power from an A18 processor, the same chip that is available in the new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models.
AI capabilities and user recognition
The Home Hub will support some Apple Intelligence features and recognize users through its camera. This hybrid product also aims to introduce the functionality of enhanced Siri intelligence. The device is expected to be used in common areas like kitchens as a smart display, showing recipes or playing TV shows and music.
Versatile control options and pricing
The Home Hub will offer versatile control options, including voice commands, touch input, or hand gestures, enhancing its interactivity. It will also support FaceTime calls. The device is rumored to be priced around $1,000 for the version with a robotic arm allowing for the display in sync with the user during calls and other tasks. A more affordable variant featuring a static display is also expected. It is speculated to release in 2025 or later.
