Apple's next big thing? A robot with iPad-like display
Apple is reportedly developing a new product that combines an iPad-style display with a robotic arm. This information comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who revealed that the tech giant has assembled "a team of several hundred people" for this project. The robotic arm is designed to tilt up and down, and rotate 360 degrees using actuators.
Tabletop robot: A multi-purpose device
The tabletop robot being developed by Apple is expected to serve various functions. These include controlling smart home devices, participating in video conferences, and overseeing home security. The project is led by Kevin Lynch, Apple's Vice President of Technology. According to Bloomberg sources, the company plans to launch this innovative product in 2026 or 2027 with an estimated price tag of around $1,000 (around ₹84,000).
It will feature Siri and Apple intelligence
The upcoming device is designed to respond to commands through Siri or features within Apple Intelligence. For example, a command like "look at me" could prompt the screen to turn toward a user during a video call. Currently, models running on a "customized version" of iPadOS are being tested by Apple, as per the report. This development follows the discontinuation of its rumored car project and the launch of $3,500 Vision Pro mixed reality headset earlier this year.
