Apple to launch three new iPhones this year
Apple will reportedly launch three new smartphones this year: the largest iPhone ever, an upgraded device the size of iPhone X, and a cheaper iPhone with some of the flagship phone's key features. This is aimed at providing a tablet experience with iPhones and also giving users an affordable version of the iPhone X. The phones are already under production tests.
Cheaper iPhone will come after iPhone X tanked in sales
To keep costs down, the cheaper phone will sport LCD screen technology, aluminum edges, and a glass back. The iPhone X, that debuted last year after much build-up, didn't see good sales reportedly due to its price of $1,000. Apple sold 77.3 million units of the iPhone in the final quarter of 2017, which fell below the analyst projection of 80.2 million units.
Apple's biggest ever iPhone will feature 6.5-inch display
The biggest iPhone ever will reportedly feature a screen size of 6.5 inches with the edge-to-edge design used in the iPhone X. Codenamed D33, the phone might have a screen resolution of 1242 x 2688, making it as sharp as the one on iPhone X. It will feature OLED technology, split-screen modes, and a Face ID scanner to unlock the device.
The bigger iPhone should sell well in Asian market
Industry expert Gene Munster said, "When you have a measurable upgrade in screen size, people go to update their phone in droves. The market that will see the biggest jump in sales is likely Asia. It has many single-device consumers, and they love big phones."
The upgraded iPhone will be powered by A12 processors
The iPhone that will be an upgraded version of the X is internally being dubbed as D32. The high-end smartphone is expected to use next-generation A12 processors and stainless steel edges. Apple is also considering a gold color option for the smartphone, which has been an option in all iPhones since the 5s except the current X handset.
The iPhones might come in dual-SIM option
The phones will reportedly run an updated operating system, probably called iOS 12. They will feature upgraded augmented reality (AR) capabilities, deeper Siri integration, digital health monitoring, and of course, Animojis. In some regions, they could also be available in a dual-SIM option.
