iOS 18 bug triggers endless crash loop in Messages app
Apple's latest operating system, iOS 18, has been marred by a significant glitch that disrupts the functionality of the Messages app. The bug gets triggered under specific circumstances, particularly when a user receives an Apple Watch face via an iMessage thread. Responding to such a message can cause the Messages app to crash repeatedly, hindering access to other conversations as well.
Bug impact extends to sender and receiver
The iOS 18 bug not only affects the recipient of the shared watch face message but also impacts the sender. Both parties experience similar issues with their Messages app crashing frequently. This glitch poses a significant challenge for users, as it disrupts their ability to communicate effectively using the app.
Deleting conversations: A temporary fix with drawbacks
A potential workaround for this issue is to delete the entire conversation thread. However, due to the frequent crashes caused by the bug, this solution may not always be successful. Even if users manage to delete the conversation, they risk losing all history associated with it including unsaved attachments like photos and videos.
Restoring deleted conversations reintroduces the bug
If users attempt to restore a deleted conversation from the recently deleted location, the bug will be reintroduced. This means that even after taking measures to mitigate its effects, the glitch can still persist and continue causing disruptions in the Messages app. Apple is expected to address this issue in an upcoming update, presumably iOS 18.0.1.
