Apple unveils A18 chip for iPhone 16 series
Apple has officially introduced its latest processor, the A18. This new chip is a successor to the A17 Pro, which was exclusively featured in the previous iPhone Pro and Pro Max models. The standard iPhone 15 continued to use the A16 Bionic chip that was initially launched with the iPhone 14 Pro. The tech giant has remained somewhat vague about details regarding this new processor.
Specifications and performance
The A18 chip is manufactured using a 3nm process, similar to its predecessor, the A17 Pro. It features a 6-core CPU but reduces the GPU cores to five. Apple has not compared the A18 with the A17 Pro, but instead promises a significant performance boost over its older chips. The company claims that this new processor offers a 30% improvement in CPU performance and a 40% improvement in GPU performance, over the previous generation's A16 Bionic chip.
Enhanced gaming experience
The A18 chip also promises to enhance the gaming experience on iPhones. Apple has improved the thermal design of the iPhone 16 to efficiently dissipate heat, allowing for a 30% faster sustained gaming performance. The new chips now support ray tracing on iPhone 16, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro models. This advancement is expected to deliver more realistic images and support for high-end games on iPhones.
