iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence: Here's when it will release
What's the story
Apple has initiated the testing phase for its latest software update, iOS 18.1 beta 4.
This marks the first time that a beta version is accessible to all iPhone models, not just those compatible with Apple Intelligence.
The new update includes older models like the iPhone XS series as well as newer ones.
Currently, only developer beta testers have access to this update. The stable release is expected in October, following a few rounds of testing by the wider public.
Feature updates
iOS 18.1 brings new Apple Intelligence features
The iOS 18.1 introduces a range of new Apple Intelligence features. These include Writing Tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text as well as a completely redesigned Siri interface that now allows users to type their queries.
The Mail app has also been enhanced with new functionalities such as message summaries, priority sorting, and Smart Reply.
Additionally, a new Focus mode called "Reduce Interruptions" has been introduced that uses AI to prioritize notifications requiring immediate attention.
Feature expansion
Call recording and transcription feature
A significant feature introduced in iOS 18.1 beta 4 is the expansion of phone call recording and transcribing to select older iPhone models.
This feature allows users on compatible iPhone models to tap an icon in the top-left corner of the Phone app during a call to start recording audio.
An audible message informs all participants on the call that it's being recorded, with audio saved to Notes app along with a transcription of the call.
