Apple refunding Rs. 3,900 on faulty iPhone battery replacements
Last year, Apple faced a lot of criticism for intentionally slowing down some iPhones through a software tweak to protect older batteries and prevent random device shut down without informing users of the issue. Later, Apple apologized for it and offered a discount of Rs. 3,900 on replacement of faulty iPhone batteries, reducing the price of out-of-warranty batteries from Rs. 5,900 to Rs. 2,000.
Refund valid on out-of-warranty batteries replaced between Jan-Dec 2017
However, before the announcement, several iPhone users had already gotten old batteries replaced by paying the full price. To those users, now Apple is offering a refund of Rs. 3,900. The refund is valid on iPhone 6 or later models and on batteries replaced between January 1, 2017, and December 28, 2017. The replacement should have been done on authorized Apple stores.
How to get the refund
The company will contact iPhone users eligible for the refund via e-mail between May 23, 2018, and July 27, 2018. Eligible customers can also directly contact Apple through its support page by December 21, 2018, and claim the refund after furnishing a proof of having gotten the battery replaced from an authorized Apple Store. The refund will most probably be transferred electronically.
The battery replacement program is effective throughout 2018
Notably, in-warranty iPhone battery replacements are not eligible under this offer. If your iPhone is running iOS 11.3, you can also check if your battery needs a replacement or not. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health (Beta).
