Apple patents VR system to ease motion-sickness in self-driving cars
A patent application filed by Apple, highlights its plans to develop a Virtual Reality (VR) system that can be used to ease motion sickness in self-driving cars. The US Patent and Trademark Office has published Apple's patent wherein the company notes that 'embodiments of the VR system' may be implemented in 'autonomous vehicles where all occupants are passengers'. Here are the details.
Apple's VR system may help alleviate motion sickness
As per the patent details, Apple's VR system, integrated with sensors that can monitor the passenger's vitals, will determine when they might start feeling unwell. Sensors which can detect pulse rate, sweating, dizziness and swallowing could be used to ascertain if a passenger is showing signs of motion sickness. Following that, the VR experience could be adjusted to mitigate his condition.
Beyond health, into the future of VR entertainment
In its patent, Apple highlights the introduction of virtual riders in the car, like an author reading you a book or co-workers virtually meeting for a conference. Riders could also experience activities such as floating down a river, gliding or thrilling experiences such as a car chase or 'driving through a post-apocalyptic wasteland with zombies attacking'.
