iPhone 17 Air, Ultra to replace Plus, Pro Max variants
What's the story
Apple is said to be planning a major revamp of its iPhone lineup.
Going by leaks, the tech giant might introduce two new models: the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Ultra. They will replace the current iPhone Plus and Pro Max variants.
The move is part of Apple's larger strategy to rebrand its products, following last month's launch of the budget-friendly iPhone 16e model, which is now up for grabs.
Premium offering
iPhone 17 Ultra to be Apple's most premium flagship
The iPhone 17 Ultra is said to be Apple's most premium flagship yet.
The device, according to South Korean blog Naver, will succeed the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The rebranding fits Apple's strategy of using "Ultra" for its high-end products, like the Apple Watch Ultra launched in 2022.
The upcoming model is expected to sport a smaller Dynamic Island and a vapor chamber cooling system for better thermal management.
Slimmer version
iPhone 17 Air will be the slimmest iPhone
The iPhone 17 Air is likely to be the slimmest iPhone yet. It could be as much as 30% thinner than its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Plus, reports suggest.
This model will also sport a slightly smaller display at 6.6-inch as opposed to its predecessor's 6.7-inch screen, without sacrificing performance.
Series lineup
Standard and Pro models to be kept
The iPhone 17 series is likely to include the standard iPhone 17 and the Pro model, keeping Apple's core offerings for mid-range and high-end consumers intact.
While these leaks are interesting, they should be taken with a pinch of salt as nothing has been confirmed by Apple yet.
The official launch event around September will give more clarity on these possible changes.
