Apple launches iPhone 16e with Face ID and Apple Intelligence
What's the story
Cupertino tech giant Apple has officially introduced the successor to the iPhone SE, the iPhone 16e.
The new model waves goodbye to the iconic Touch ID interface and brings a Face ID-enabled notch.
Along with this, the phone gets an upgrade to the latest A18 chip and support for Apple Intelligence, making it more capable than ever.
It is available in two shades: White and Black.
Design
How does the phone look?
The iPhone 16e borrows design cues from the 2022's iPhone 14.
The new model packs the 12MP front-facing TrueDepth camera required for Face ID and selfies inside a top-notch, ditching the Dynamic Island design of Apple's latest flagships.
It also gets a customizable Action Button but misses out on the new Camera Control on the standard iPhone 16 series.
Specs
Display and internals
The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina OLED display, matching the size of Apple's regular iPhone 16.
The new model also replaces its Lightning port with USB-C to meet EU regulations for phone sales.
It is powered by an A18 chipset, same as that in standard iPhone 16. This makes it capable of running Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI tools.
The device has 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
Camera
A single rear camera model
The iPhone 16e features a single 48MP Fusion rear camera with 2x telephoto that can record 4K videos with Dolby Vision at up to 60fps. It can also record videos in Spatial Audio.
The phone comes with iOS 18, wireless charging support and water-resistant IP68-rated body.
It houses an Apple-developed 5G modem called C1, signaling an attempt to end reliance on Qualcomm's 5G chips.
Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance via satellites, and Crash Detection are some of the helpful features.
