Do iPhone 16 models really support 45W wired charging?
Apple's latest iPhone 16 series has been certified by the China Quality Certification Centre, a regulatory body in China. The certification reveals that all models of the new range support up to 45W of wired fast charging via their USB-C port. This information was initially discovered by ShrimpApplePro on X, who noted that the devices were tested at voltages between 5-15V and currents of up to 3A, which is up to 45W.
iPhone 16's charging speed surpasses predecessor
The newly revealed charging capacity of the iPhone 16 series represents a significant improvement over its predecessor. The previous generation, the iPhone 15 lineup, could only reach a maximum charging speed of around 27-29W. This means that the latest models offer over 50% faster wired charging capabilities, marking a substantial upgrade in this aspect of device performance.
Apple's silence on wired charging speed
Despite the significant increase in charging speed, Apple has not officially commented on this feature of the iPhone 16 models. The tech giant did announce that MagSafe wireless charging tech can now deliver up to 25W when paired with a suitable power adapter. However, they have remained silent about the wired charging capabilities of their latest devices. This is consistent with Apple's past approach where they have often refrained from discussing specific details about wired charging speeds.
iPhone 16 series: Pre-orders and features
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro were unveiled on Monday, with pre-orders set to begin on Friday. The devices are expected to start reaching customers by September 20. The new models boast several features including a Camera Caption button, larger displays for the Pro variants, and what Apple describes as their first phones designed for Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI features coming in beta form this October.
