Apple iPhone 16 Pro users experiencing unresponsive touchscreens
Apple's latest model, the iPhone 16 Pro, is facing user complaints regarding its touchscreen responsiveness. The issue, which seems to be intermittent, involves the device not responding to certain taps and swipes. This problem affects various functions including scrolling, swiping, button pressing, and typing on the virtual keyboard. However, the touchscreen issue with the iPhone 16 Pro seems to be a software bug rather than a hardware fault.
Problem affects all screen edges
It seems that the accidental touch rejection algorithm in iOS is overly sensitive, leading to intended touches being ignored. This problem occurs when users unintentionally touch other parts of the screen while using their device. The touchscreen issue seems to affect all four screen edges of the iPhone 16 Pro equally.
How it leads to missed taps and swipes
Users have reported specific problems when their finger is near the Camera Control on the right-hand side of the screen. However, any unintentional contact with other parts of the screen can also trigger this problem. When this happens, the phone's software often ignores new touches on its display for a brief period, leading to missed taps and swipes.
Thinner screen bezels may exacerbate the issue
The thinner screen bezels of the iPhone 16 Pro could potentially worsen this touchscreen issue. The slim design makes it easier for users' skin to accidentally touch the edges of the display, triggering touch rejection. This problem can occur when users naturally hold their phone with fingers wrapped around its sides. It's more likely to happen when using the phone without a case, as fingers can easily rest over these thin borders.
Issue persists across iOS versions
The touchscreen problem has been reported on iPhones running both iOS 18 and the iOS 18.1 beta. Interestingly, the issue does not seem to occur when the device is idle on its lock screen. It only manifests when the phone is unlocked and in use. Apple is expected to address the problem with a software update.
