Apple iPhone 12 will have four variants, specifications leaked
What's the story
Apple's next batch of flagship smartphones, likely to arrive as part of the iPhone 12 series, could include as many as four different models, according to prototyping details leaked by tech analyst Jon Prosser.
Interestingly, the new information syncs up with earlier predictions, revealing that the forthcoming iPhones will feature smaller notched screens, 5G support, and improved cameras.
Notch potch
All models will feature a smaller notch
Apple first introduced the notch in 2017 with the iPhone X, and retained it on all of its Face ID-equipped handsets launched till date. And if the current details are anything to go by, that trend is here to stay.
According to Prosser, Apple has decided to carry the notch for yet another term albeit with a small reduction in size.
Metal-glass combo
Premium models will come with stainless steel frames
Going by the prototyping details, the range will include 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models along with 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max variants.
The regular models will come with aluminum frames while the Pro versions will offer stainless steel bodies. We also expect all models to sport a glass back and offer IP68 water-resistance.
Information
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will get LiDAR sensors
The standard iPhone 12 variants will come with a dual-lens camera setup on the back whereas the high-end Pro models will boast of a triple camera array and a LiDAR scanner that recently debuted on the 2020 iPad Pro.
All on 5G
All variants to get new A14 chipset and 5G support
Regardless of the price-tag or the moniker, all iPhone 12 models will come with 5G support. However, the high-band millimeter wave (mmWave) technology might be reserved for the Pro flagships.
Under the hood, there will be the next-generation A14 chipset, which will offer improvements in both performance as well as efficiency. Further, these handsets will run on iOS 14 out-of-the-box.
