Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Air to feature Mini LED display
Apple's upcoming iteration of the iPad Air is rumored offer two size options, 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch, a feature previously exclusive to the iPad Pro series. Analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has revealed that the larger variant will incorporate Mini LED technology. This shift aligns with the technology used in the current iPad Pro and marks a departure from the existing iPad Air's IPS LCD panel.
Mini LED display to enhance iPad Air's performance
The transition to Mini LED for the 12.9-inch iPad Air is expected to offer several benefits including reduced power usage, improved brightness for HDR content consumption, and richer blacks. This change is reportedly due to Apple's surplus of Mini LED panels from its current 12.9-inch iPad Pro production line. Young suggests that these panels will be repurposed for the new iPad Air, marking a strategic move amidst a recent downturn in Apple's tablet sales.
Affordable alternative to Pro model
The integration of Mini LED technology into the iPad Air series is seen as a positive step. This upgrade means consumers seeking a 12.9-inch Apple tablet will have a more affordable alternative to the Pro model. However, Young has not disclosed any details regarding the display technology for the smaller 10.9-inch iPad Air variant. Speculation suggests it may retain IPS LCD panel.
Official unveiling of revamped iPad Air models
The official unveiling of the new iPad Air models, featuring Mini LED technology, is expected to take place next month. This launch will coincide with other fresh additions to the iPad Air tablet lineup. The introduction of these revamped models marks a significant step in Apple's strategy to offer advanced display technology in its more affordable tablet range.
