iOS 18 releases September 16, Apple Intelligence arrives in October
Apple has announced the release date for its highly anticipated software update, iOS 18. The tech giant revealed at the iPhone 16 "Glowtime" event that the new firmware will be available to all users on September 16. This latest update is set to introduce a range of innovative features and aesthetic enhancements, aimed at improving user experience.
iOS 18 introduces aesthetic enhancements
The upcoming iOS 18 update will offer users more control over their home screen layout. They will be able to place icons anywhere on the screen and leave blank spaces for a personalized look. Additionally, the update allows users to change the color of icons and adjust their size. When using Siri, instead of a glowing orb at the bottom, the edges of the iPhone will now light up.
Control center and lock screen modifications in iOS 18
The control center in iOS 18 will feature a multi-page layout, providing users with the flexibility to customize and add controls. This new layout also extends support for third-party apps. Additionally, users can now replace the default flashlight and camera icons on their lock screen, further personalizing their device's interface.
iOS 18 brings revamped Photos app and dedicated Passwords app
The iOS 18 update will introduce a dedicated passwords app and a redesigned Photos app. The revamped Photos app will eliminate the bottom bar and different tabs, opting for a single-page view instead. This new design aims to regularly surface old photos through various carousels. These changes are part of Apple's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience on its devices.
iOS 18 update includes language and communication enhancements
The iOS 18 update will also include several language-related enhancements. These include a multilingual and multiscript keyboard, support for Hindi in the translate app, and Arabic in Live Text. The call app will undergo a significant update that allows users to search through call history and contacts. In the Messages app, a new feature will enable users to schedule messages for later delivery.
iOS 18.1 to bring Apple Intelligence features
Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of AI features, will debut with iOS 18.1 update in October. This initial rollout will be in beta form, starting with US English users only. Starting in October, the tech giant is expected to debut notification summaries, email summaries, the Reduce Interruptions feature, and Clean Up image editing in Photos. Some of the more interesting features like Genmoji and Image Playgrounds will likely be rolled out in December.
