End-of-an-era: Apple doesn't sell devices with 64GB storage anymore
What's the story
Apple has officially retired its 64GB base storage option on all iPhone and iPad models.
The last devices to sport this storage capacity were the third-generation iPhone SE and the iPad 10, both of which have been retired.
They have been replaced by the new iPhone 16e and the latest A16 chip-powered iPad, both of which come with a minimum of 128GB of storage.
Strategic move
Shift in storage strategy
This change in storage capacity isn't a one-off case but part of a larger trend in Apple's product design.
Since October, all Macs sold by Apple have been bundled with at least 16GB of RAM, up from the previous 8GB standard.
This strategic move shows Apple's commitment to offering higher storage and memory options across its product range for improved user experience.
Evolution
A look at Apple's storage evolution
The shift to bigger base storage isn't new for Apple.
The first iPhoneswith 64GB of base storage were the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X in 2017.
Likewise, the first iPad Pro models with a minimum of 64GB of storage were also released that year.
This evolution highlights Apple's continued efforts to cater to growing consumer demands for more from their devices.
