Apple to increase iPhone production, focusing on 16 Pro series
What's the story
Apple is reportedly planning to ramp up its production for the upcoming iPhone 16 series, with a particular focus on the Pro and Pro Max models.
The tech giant aims to manufacture approximately 90.1 million iPhones this year, a slight increase from last year's target of 86.2 million units.
This information was revealed by Korean media outlet The Elec, based on data obtained from Apple's supply chain sources.
Production focus
Pro Max set to dominate
The Pro Max models are set to dominate Apple's production plans, accounting for 37% of the total output.
This translates into approximately 33.2 million units, a significant increase from last year's production of 24.2 million iPhone 15 Pro Max units.
The standard 16 Pro units are also expected to see a rise in production numbers, with an estimated output of 26.6 million units this year compared to last year's figure of 21.8 million for the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Standard models
Non-Pro variants to account for one-third of total production
The non-Pro variants of the iPhone 16 series are projected to make up 33% of Apple's total production.
The standard iPhone 16 would see a modest increase in production from last year's figure of 21.8 million units, to an estimated 24.5 million units this year.
However, the iPhone 16 Plus model will be manufactured in fewer numbers - only about 5.8 million units - marking a decrease from planned production for iPhone 15 Plus at around eight million units.
Market response
Plans may change based on demand
Apple's production plans are not set in stone and could change depending on market demand.
The decreasing interest in the Plus model has been noted, fueling rumors that Apple might replace it with a different iPhone variant in the future.
The increased production of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models could potentially boost Apple's revenue, as these are among the company's most expensive offerings and may carry larger profit margins.
