Apple AirPods v/s Microsoft Surface Earbuds: Which one is better?
Following in the footsteps of Apple, Samsung and other OEMs, Microsoft has launched is first-ever truly wireless earphones, the Surface Earbuds. With an unusual design, integrated touch controls, seamless connectivity, and a bunch of productivity features, the Earbuds promise more than just entertainment. But how does Microsoft's offering compare with the popular Apple AirPods? Here's our head-to-head comparison.
Apple AirPods v/s Microsoft Surface Earbuds: At a glance
The Apple AirPods feature an in-ear design with sweat-proof build quality. As for wearability, they have a reasonably good fit for most people. In comparison, the Surface Earbuds are not even half as elegant as the AirPods, but that's for a reason. They feature an in-canal design with a large and circular touchpad that allows for gesture controls. Winner: AirPods for its refined design.
Apple AirPods v/s Microsoft Surface Earbuds: Compatibility
Both the AirPods and Surface Earbuds are compatible with iOS and Android. However, with the W1 chip and a host of sensors, the AirPods get automatically switched on and connect to your Apple device when taken out of the box. On the other hand, Microsoft's earbuds come with Swift Pair technology that offers easy pairing. However, we'll have to test that out. Winner: Tie.

AirPods come with Siri integration that lets you adjust the volume, change the song or make a call simply by voice commands. In comparison, Surface Earbuds are more productive in nature. They support Google Assistant and Alexa for voice control and noise cancellation. They also come with built-in Spotify support, Office 365 integration and provide real-time translation for over 60 languages. Winner: Earbuds.
What about battery performance?
The Apple AirPods offer around 5 hours of listening time and the case holds additional 3-4 full charges whereas the Surface Earbuds provide 8 hours of usage on a single charge with the charging-cum-carry case offering two additional full charges. Winner: Earbuds.
How things stack up?
On paper, the Microsoft Surface Earbuds sound and look pretty good. However, we will have to see the performance and wearability factor in real life when they release later this year for $240 (approximately Rs. 17,700). Until then, the Apple AirPods continue to reign supreme with their comfortable design, great sound profile, solid battery life, and overall usability. Winner: Apple AirPods.
