AirPods 2: Everything we know about Apple's 2018 wireless headphones
Back in 2016, Apple ditched the headphone jack on its iPhones to take the first step towards a wireless future with AirPods. These wireless headsets offered good audio output and connectivity while sporting a truly wireless form-factor - a design that was soon adopted by several OEMs. And now, reports suggest Apple is working on the next-generation of its wireless headsets. Here's more.
Firstly, when should you expect AirPods 2?
While there is no official word yet, Apple is expected to upgrade its current AirPods version this year itself. Further, a Bloomberg report suggests that the tech giant is working on two models of the AirPods - one which will launch in 2018 and another hi-end version scheduled to release next year. The 2018 model, expectedly to be named AirPods 2, could be announced this September.
Now, what to expect from the Apple's AirPods 2?
According to reports, the second-generation AirPods will get a W2 chip which will offer better Bluetooth connectivity as compared to the W1 chip on the current models. Moreover, AirPods 2 will get inbuilt voice activation, implying you'll be able to summon Apple's voice assistant by just saying "Hey Siri". Further, Apple will most certainly offer wireless charging on these upcoming wireless headphones.
Other features expected on the AirPod 2
Back in July, Apple filed a couple of patents wherein the first patent suggested AirPods 2 will get biometric sensors to track heart-rate, stroke volume, and will sport other fitness-tracking capabilities. The other patent detailed a valve system for negating the reverberating effect one experiences while speaking with earbuds (plugged in the ears) and using the microphone at the same time.
Expect water-resistance as well, but on the 2019 AirPods model
The aforementioned patents and some sort of water-resistance capabilities may eventually make way into the third-generation of AirPods expected to be launched in 2019. However, for the 2018 model, expect basic upgrades in terms of battery life, connectivity, charging, and software-based improvements.
