Apple acknowledges iPhone X, MacBook Pro issues, offers free repairs
After selling the iPhone X for a year and discontinuing it, Apple has acknowledged a major touch-related issue with the device. The company has started a program under which all phones suffering from the problem will be repaired for free. A similar program has also been started to fix SSD-related problems witnessed on select models of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Here's more.
How to get the issue fixed?
As per Apple's program, all iPhone X users witnessing such issues can visit their nearest Apple-authorized service providers to get their devices examined. If the device is found eligible for the program, the company will replace the display module free of cost. However, if there any other issues with the display, like a cracked screen, you may have to pay for that.
iPhone X: What was the issue?
Ever since the iPhone X debuted, several users had reported display-related problems on the device. Now, Apple has verified those claims and confirmed that some iPhone X models could be witnessing display problems due to a failing component. It may cause the display, or a part of it, to go unresponsive or even exhibit ghost touch - where the screen reacts without touch input.
What's the issue with MacBook Pro?
Apart from iPhone X, Apple has also launched a similar repair program for the 13-inch MacBook Pro without touchbar. The problem revolves around the SSD of 128GB and 256GB models of the laptop and can cause data loss or failure. Notably, only units sold between June 2017 and June 2018 are affected and will be fixed by updating the drive firmware of the machine.
Don't forget to backup your data
Before giving your MacBook for service, it is recommended to take a backup of all the data stored on the machine because the firmware updation process will delete the data stored on it.
Already paid for fix? Contact Apple for refund
As Apple announced these programs just recently, it is possible that many of you may have already paid for getting these issues fixed. If that's the case, just contact Apple and they'll issue a full refund for service, whether it is for iPhone X or the MacBook Pro.
