Apparently, new iPad Pro can bend without much exertion
Apple's all-new iPad Pros offer an amazing flagship package with MacBook-level performance. But, at the same time, these are also the thinnest iPads ever made, which makes us wonder how durable they really are. Famous YouTuber Zack Nelson from 'JerryRigEverything' also had the same questions and so he conducted a bend test of the new 11-inch iPad Pro. Here's what he found.
iPad Pro appears to bend pretty easily
As is always the case with Nelson's tests, flagship devices are put under extreme physical stress to establish if they're exactly what the manufacturers claim. Something similar happened with the new Apple Pencil and iPad Pro when Nelson subjected the devices to scratches, burns, and bending. The first two tests went pretty ok, but the iPad bent without much effort in the last one.
Center appears to be the weakest point
Nelson tried folding the device from the middle and was able to do it pretty easily. The small microphone hole on the left and magnetic area for charging Apple Pencil on the right cracked open in a matter of seconds. In the clip, the YouTuber stresses that the device bends along the middle due to holes in the metal frame, which makes it weaker.
So, is this another BendGate?
The bending of this device is similar to 'iPhone 6 BendGate', but this is a completely different case. Here we are talking about a tablet with a much larger surface area and not a phone that is supposed to be much more rigid. The case of iPhone 6 was weird by smartphone standards, but tablets can give up more easily due to their size.
Even previous iPads failed bend test
Notably, this is not the first case. Even previous iPad models have failed the bend test, including last year's 10.5-inch iPad Pro. However, that particular model, as seen in this video, required more effort than the latest one.
Remember: The iPads aren't meant to be indestructible
The video indicates iPad Pro can bend pretty easily, but considering the thinner profile of this device and the fact that it is not meant to be indestructible, it is important to keep it away from bending situations. In case you're still worried, go for a case for additional protection. So far, Apple has not commented on the video.
