This iOS app reminds users of their impending death
An iOS app called WeCroak reminds users that they are going to die, which is rather scary. At five random times a day, the app sends users a push notification that says, "Don't forget, you're going to die." Co-founded by app developer Ian Thomas and publicist Hansa Bergwall, the app aims at encouraging the acceptance of death. Notably, it costs 99 cents to download.
The death reminders are accompanied by death-related quotes
The notifications are also accompanied by quotes from "a poet, philosopher or notable thinker." Obviously death-related, some examples of these quotes are "Dead or alive, interesting people are interesting people" by historian and author Noel Riley Fitch and "When you look at a corpse you can always sense your own breath better" by late writer Pulitzer Prize-winner Zona Gale.
The app's inspiration is an old Bhutanese saying
"You are encouraged to take one moment for contemplation, conscious breathing or meditation when WeCroak notifications arrive," the app says. According to the company, the inspiration for the app came from a Bhutanese folk saying that claims death must be contemplated upon five times a day to be happy. The app's Twitter account regularly posts interesting and humorous statements around subjects related to death.
