Android Q will automatically enable dark mode at night
Google plans to introduce a dedicated system-wide dark mode in the next flavor of its mobile operating system, Android Q. The feature has already shown up in the first two developer beta versions of the OS, giving a glimpse of how it will work. And now, Android Police reports that it will also turn on and off automatically for users. Here's how.
Automatic dark mode toggle functional now
Just a few days back, the folks at Android Police confirmed that the dark mode for Android Q can be configured to work in an auto mode. This way, it will automatically turn your phone's theme dark at sunset and revert to the light theme at sunrise. The whole thing will be pretty similar to how Night Light activates on an Android device.
However, you won't be able to set your own time
While the feature sounds interesting and can save heavy users from the trouble of activating/deactivating the dark mode, it's worth noting that it doesn't allow you to set a specific time. Meaning, if you enable the auto-mode, the theme will change automatically according to sunrise or sunset, and you can't customize it to work according to your own time preferences.
Also, dark mode will trigger if battery is low
The Android Police report also indicated that the dark mode would activate earlier if your phone is running low on juice. This, naturally, would come handy in saving power as a dark-theme eats less juice than a brighter one. Not to mention, it will also be easier on your eyes if you are operating the device in a dark room.

Having said that, it's imperative to note that this is just one of the many things Android Q will have on offer. The upcoming mobile OS will offer support for a Face ID-like facial recognition system, enhanced privacy controls and app permission settings, reverse app updates, a built-in screen recorder, desktop mode, and iPhone-like full-screen gestures.
