Android P's developer preview can release mid-March
According to renowned mobile tipster Evan Blass, Google can release the developer preview of its upcoming operating system (OS) Android P as early as mid-March. The OS will most likely be launched globally at some point in August or September this year, reports said. To get access to the OS early on, you need to be registered with Google as a developer.
You can't ignore it when Blass says it
Even Oreo's developer preview was released in March last year
The developer preview will focus on helping coders get their apps ready for Android P. It'll detail on the OS' ability to squash bugs, and reserve announcing the bigger features at the Google I/O, which starts on May 8. Notably, even Android 8.0 Oreo was released as a developer preview on March 21 last year. Further, Google's Pixel smartphone users will get preference as usual.
Everything we know about Android P so far
So far this is what we have learned about the OS through reports: Android P will prevent background apps from accessing a device's camera and microphone to help protect users from malicious apps spying on their phones. The OS will feature advanced options for blocking spam calls and a toggle switch to help developers test a night mode for their apps.
What's in a name? Apparently, a lot
We still don't know what P in Android P stands for, even though it is believed that the OS is internally referred to as "Pistachio Ice Cream" at Google. However, it is being speculated that since the developer preview will be pushed out on March 14, or 3/14, the word "pie" can have something do with the name, which is usually after a dessert.
