Google Maps' incident reporting feature now available on Android Auto
Google Maps has finally rolled out its incident reporting feature on Android Auto. Earlier, this handy tool was only available on mobile devices, which kind of limited its usefulness. However, things changed in July when Google made it available for Apple CarPlay, and then they announced it would come to Android Auto. It offers reporting options for a variety of road hazards, including crashes, traffic jams, construction work, lane closures, and speed traps.
Google flips the switch for Android Auto users
Google's latest update follows a flood of reports from users over the last two days, confirming its availability via the Google Maps app on Reddit. You can find this feature through a new triangle hazard button, located just below the compass in the app.
Incident reporting feature's functionality and limitations
There's a bit of a hiccup with the incident reporting feature on Android Auto. For starters, the hazard icon won't pop up if Android Auto's dashboard layout for Maps doesn't have enough vertical space. This little issue came to light during some testing with Maps on a 105 DPI setting through AAWireless. Once the incident reporting feature is up and running, users will get reminders asking them to confirm if the reported road hazards are still there on their route.
