Your Android phone will soon get this iPhone-like security feature
Google's upcoming Android 15 is set to introduce a new security feature called "Identity Check," as revealed in the latest beta code analysis by Android Authority. This feature will enhance phone security by requiring biometric verification in certain situations, making it more challenging for unauthorized users to access your device. The rollout of this update is expected next month, with Google Pixel 9 being among the first devices to receive it.
'Identity Check' to require biometric verification
The "Identity Check" feature is designed to prevent unauthorized access even if someone has seen your PIN. In such cases, the intruder will need to bypass face or fingerprint recognition to unlock the device. This added layer of security aims to protect user data from potential threats, especially in public places where shoulder surfing is a common issue.
Feature activation based on location
According to tipster @AssembleDebug, the mandatory biometric check could be activated when you're outside "trusted" locations like home or office. This feature complements the existing Android Theft Detection feature that automatically locks your phone upon detecting suspicious movement. The introduction of "Identity Check" brings Android closer to Apple's Stolen Device Protection, a similar security measure introduced in iOS 17.3.
More customization options in the update
In addition to enhanced security, Android 15 is also set to offer a range of new customization options. The software is currently being fine-tuned by engineers at Google, Samsung, and other Android phone manufacturers before its official release. These updates aim to provide users with an improved and personalized user experience on their devices.
