Android 10 finally starts rolling out: Here's how to install
After months of development and testing, Android-10'>Android 10, the next iteration of Google's mobile operating system, is finally here. The platform marks a major upgrade over Android 9 Pie and boasts of plenty of capabilities, including a system-wide dark mode, live captioning, and a smart Focus mode. Here's all about the Android 10 and the way to install it.
Initial roll-out only for Pixels
Android 10's initial roll-out began on September 3, soon after the official website for the platform went live. However, it's worth noting that in the first phase, the OS is being rolled out solely for Google's Pixel family, which includes the original Pixel/XL, Pixel 2/2 XL, Pixel 3/3 XL, and the newest Pixel 3a/3a XL. Other models may also follow suit soon.
When other phones will get Android 10
Google has already said it is "working with a number of partners to launch or upgrade devices to Android 10 this year." Neither the search giant nor OEMs have confirmed the release timeline but considering the phones that were a part of Android Q beta program, we expect HMD Global, Huawei, OnePlus, and OPPO to be issuing Android 10 updates in coming weeks/months.
How you can install Android 10?
Having said that, if you own a Pixel phone, an over-the-air update with an option to download and install Android 10 should show up on your phone anytime. But, in case that hasn't appeared, you can check for the release manually by heading over Settings > System > Advanced > System Update. Also, don't forget to backup and charge your phone sufficiently before installing.
Key highlights of Android 10
Android 10 isn't a big visual upgrade over Pie but you're getting a dark mode and full-screen gestures, similar to that of the iOS. The platform is also bringing a Focus Mode to steer you away from distracting apps as well as Live Captions to show subtitles for any active video. Additionally, privacy settings have also been revamped to stop apps' continuous location tracking.
