Amazon launches Fire HD 10 Kids Edition tablet
Amazon has launched the Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition tablet for $199. This is the third device in Amazon's child-friendly tablet lineup after the Fire HD 7 Kids Edition and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition. The tablet is available for pre-order and will start shipping from July 11. It will be available in blue, pink and yellow color options.
New Amazon kid tablet goes big on size, space
The tablet features a 10.1-inch Full HD display, a quad-core processor, 32GB of storage (expandable up to 256GB via microSD), and up to 10 hours of battery life. The tablet is bundled with a two-year replacement guarantee. With the upgraded screen size and specs, Amazon wants children to have a tablet with more capacity for graphically intense gaming and big video downloads.
The tablet's UI is more touch-friendly than Amazon's regular tablets
As with its predecessors, the new tablet comes with a kid-proof case. It features a Parent Dashboard using which parents can limit and track their kids' screen time and usage from afar. The device is also bundled with a year of free "Amazon FreeTime Unlimited," a service that offers over 15,000 books, videos, apps, and games for children.
Amazon whitelists tens of thousands of websites, YouTube videos
Kurt Beidler, Amazon's Director of Kids and Family said, "We built our web browser a couple of years ago and it's unlike any other kid-friendly web browser. We whitelist every single website and YouTube video, while others blacklist websites through keyword filters."
Average age for a child using a tablet is 4
According to Amazon, 73% of kids are using its tablets to play games and 50% to watch TV and movies. Further, nine out of 10 parents want to pre-approve the content on their kids' tablet and not have it chosen by an algorithm.
