All mid-premium, flagship OPPO smartphones to get 5G next year
Though 5G technology is slowly and steadily becoming more mainstream, it has remained exclusive to top-end smartphones. So far, we have seen only a handful of flagships that offer 5G support and that too in select markets. However, OPPO is planning to change the equation as it aims to add 5G capabilities on all flagships as well as mid-premium handsets starting next year.
OPPO to enable 5G on phones priced above Rs. 30,000
In a recent event, OPPO's 5G expert Shen Jia confirmed that the company would bring 5G support on all products priced above 3,000 yuan (Rs. 30,000), suggesting that all flagship smartphones and mid-premium handsets will offer 5G capabilities. He also noted that OPPO plans to invest 10 billion yuan for R&D, and a considerable amount will be invested in the development of 5G products.

Further, according to Gizmochina, OPPO plans to "explore the true potential of 5G by combining it with next-generation technologies and applying it in areas such as 5G HD video calls, cloud gaming, super-fast 5G downloads and so on."
5G will open new possibilities, thanks to Gigabit-class download speeds
Though 5G roll-out is yet to begin in India, markets like the UK, US, South Korea, and China have already started offering the next-generation connectivity options. With the current infrastructure, flagship phones like OnePlus 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10+ 5G, and Huawei Mate X have achieved top download speeds of upto 1.2Gbps, opening new possibilities like online gaming, connected driving, live broadcasts, et al.
Demand for 5G phone to grow manifolds in China
Meanwhile, according to MediaTek's CEO Rick Tsai, global sales of 5G smartphones are estimated at around 140 million in 2020. However, nearly 70% of these new phones will be sold in the Chinese market alone as demand for 5G phones continues to grow manifolds.
