Google to launch affordable Pixel smartphone this year: Report
With the ever increasing demand in emerging markets, Google is working to launch its first low-cost smartphone in 2019, according to a report. As per a recent stream of leaks, the tech giant is likely to introduce Google Pixel 3 Lite and Google Pixel 3 Lite XL with an aim to attract more users into its ecosystem. Here's more on this development.
Pixel 3 Lite, Pixel 3 XL Lite: At a glance
As per leaks, both the phones are expected to sport a notch-free rectangular display with bezels, plastic chassis and a headphone jack positioned at the top edge. On the back, they are expected to feature single camera, and fingerprint sensor - reminiscent of Pixel 3 flagships. Further, Pixel 3 Lite will sport a 5.56-inch full-HD+ display while the larger model will get a 6-inch screen.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
Given Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL flagships share roughly the same specifications (internals and optics), we can expect to see the same trend on the cheaper Pixel 3 Lite pair. As per previous leaks, both the Pixel 3 Lite and its XL variant will come with a 12MP rear camera and a single 8MP selfie snapper.
Under the hood
Again, leaks suggest both the phones will be powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Under the hood, both the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite will pack 2,915mAh battery and run Android Pie out of the box.
Google's "Lite" smartphones will be significantly cheaper than iPhone Xr
The Russian tech blog, which leaked the Pixel 3 Lite, speculated that phone could be priced anywhere between $400-500 (approx. Rs. 28,000-Rs. 35,000). This pricing is significantly lower than that of Apple's "affordable" phone, the iPhone XR, which starts at $749 in the US or Rs. 70,500 in India.
Google is also planning a smartwatch and smart speakers
Separately, Nikkei Asian Review claims that the company will also launch "a new smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch." The tech giant will also release an updated version of its flagship Google Home smart speaker and a new security camera later this year. Analysts suggest Google's efforts to expand its hardware will help the company "drive more users to its services."
