    ASUS launches ZenFone Max (M1) with 4,000-mAh battery

    What's the story

    ASUS, the Taiwanese computer and electronics manufacturer, unveiled the ZenFone Max (M1) yesterday at the Mobile World Congress.

    With this latest smartphone, ASUS plans to target the budget smartphone market by offering modern features like Face Unlock and dual-camera setup along, while packing a massive 4,000 mAh battery.

    Design & Display

    At a glance

    The ASUS ZenFone Max (M1), weighing at 150 grams, flaunts a metallic finish with 2.5D curved glass on the front and a rear fingerprint sensor.

    The slim-bezels on the top and bottom give the phone a 83% screen-to-body ratio.

    The phone sports a 5.5-inch HD+ (720x1440) IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a capability up to 400 nits of brightness.

    Camera

    For the shutterbugs

    The ZenFone Max (M1) sports a dual rear camera setup with a 13-MP with f/2.0 aperture and PDFA (phase detection autofocus), coupled with an 8-MP 120-degree wide-angle camera.

    On the front, the phone gets a single 8 MP f/2.2 sensor that will also be used for the Face Unlock feature on this phone.

    Stuff that matters

    Under the hood

    The smartphone is powered by either Snapdragon 425 or Snapdragon 430 (depending on the variant) coupled with upto 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is expandable upto 256GB.

    ASUS is expected to launch some variants with low-end specs in select countries.

    Notably, the phone packs a 4,000 mAh battery which is said to deliver up to 36 hours of talk-time (on 3G).

    Out-of-the-box, the ZenFone Max (M1) runs Android 8.0 Oreo with the in-house ZenUI 5.0 skin on top.

    Also, one gets triple slots on the phone - two for SIM cards and one for microSD cards which can expand the internal storage upto 256GB.

    For connectivity, the phone get 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

    Unfortunately, ASUS hasn't disclosed the price and release date for the ZenFone Max (M1). However, what we know is that the phone will come in three color variants - Deepsea Black, Ruby Red and Sunlight Gold.
