Apple's iPhone battery replacement offer ends on December 31
Almost a year back, Apple was found guilty of throttling performance on old iPhones, in return, it offered to replace the battery for Rs. 1,995 as against the regular price of Rs. 6,500. Backstory: What was the controversy all about
In December last year, 17-year-old Tyler Barney had reported that the Lithium-ion battery caused his iPhone 6 to 'became buggy', and replacing it worked like a charm. Later, developer Guilherme Rambo discovered a secret power mode called "Powerd", which brought to light how Apple deliberately slowed down iPhones via iOS 10.2 software update. And after a series of lawsuits, Apple admitted to the controversy.

After the controversy surfaced, Apple issued an apology and offered a battery replacement program to all the affected users. Under this program, which started in January'18, the tech giant slashed the battery replacement costs from Rs. 6,500 to Rs. 1,995 for all eligible repairs. Hence, if you've haven't been able to get the battery replaced on your old iPhone, now is the time.
These iPhones are eligible for discounted out-of-warranty battery replacement
The Apple battery replacement program extends to iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. Notably, this program makes sense if your iPhone warranty has expired. However, in case you're facing battery issues and your iPhone is still in warranty, you can go for a free device replacement.
Here's how to get your iPhone battery replaced
In India, you will have to visit an authorized Apple service center. Once your device is reviewed and accepted for repair, you may have to make some payment for booking your service request. Then, in 2-3 working days, a service center representative would call you for the concerned service request. It would just take 30-45 minutes for the battery to be replaced.
