Airtel offering unlimited data at 128Kbps for prepaid combo packs
Airtel has made prepaid plans that feature a per day data cap "truly unlimited" by offering 128Kbps of data speed post the FUP limit. Earlier, once users surpassed the daily data limit, they'd either have to get another recharge or wait until the next day to get fresh data benefits. Now, users can avail low-speed data even after the original data offering is consumed.
Plans with truly unlimited data benefits
Airtel's cheapest combo prepaid plan eligible for after FUP data speed of 128Kbps is of Rs. 199 with 1.4GB of daily data. Other eligible plans are of Rs. 249, Rs. 349, Rs. 399, Rs. 448, Rs. 499, and Rs. 509. Previously, Airtel charged users a certain amount for each KB of extra data consumed post the given daily data limit.
Airtel's broadband subscribers enjoy unlimited data at 512Kbps
Existing prepaid packs have been upgraded with the post FUP data access at 128Kbps so users need not make a fresh recharge to avail the truly unlimited data offering. Notably, Airtel's broadband subscribers enjoy truly unlimited data benefits at the speed of 512Kbps on the orders of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Competition
Until now, BSNL and Reliance Jio have been the only telecom service providers in India to offer users truly unlimited data. BSNL offers 128Kbps of data speed post the FUP limit and Jio recently reduced the same from 128Kbps to 64Kbps for its prepaid subscribers.
