Airtel will now offer AI-backed spam detection for calls, messages
Bharti Airtel has launched India's first network-based, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered spam detection solution. This innovative tool is designed to protect customers from unsolicited calls and messages. The company stated that the solution will be automatically activated for all Airtel users without any additional charges, or need for a service request or app download.
CEO comments on new spam detection solution
Gopal Vittal, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bharti Airtel, acknowledged the growing issue of spam calls and messages. He stated that the company has been working for the past year to address this problem comprehensively. "Today marks a milestone as we launch the country's first AI-powered spam-free network that will shield our customers from the continuous onslaught of intrusive and unwanted communications," Vittal said.
Airtel's AI processes billions of calls, messages daily
Airtel's spam detection solution operates on a dual-layer protection system, with filters at both the network and IT systems layers. The AI shield processes 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls daily in just two milliseconds, according to Vittal. "This is equivalent to processing one trillion records on a real-time basis using the power of AI," he added.
It successfully identifies millions of potential spam
Vittal revealed that their solution has successfully identified 100 million potential spam calls, and three million spam messages daily. The AI-powered tool, developed by Airtel's data scientists, uses a proprietary algorithm to classify calls and messages as 'Suspected SPAM.' It analyzes various parameters like caller or sender's usage patterns, call/message frequency, and call duration among others in real-time.
AI solution also alerts users about malicious links
In addition to identifying spam calls and messages, Airtel's AI solution also alerts users about malicious links received via SMS. The company has created a centralized database of blacklisted URLs, which is used by an AI algorithm to scan every SMS in real-time. This feature aims to prevent users from accidentally clicking on suspicious links, further enhancing their security.
