Agra students build solar car to protect Taj from pollution
Students of ACE college of engineering and management in Agra have developed a four-seater solar car named "Negen" to protect the Taj Mahal from rising air pollution in the city. Priced at Rs. 50,000, the car can attain a maximum speed of 30 kmph. The vehicle is also sturdy enough for rural areas, College Chairman Sanjay Garg said.
It can also be used in the night as well
The zero-fumes solar car can help clean up the city's polluted skyline, Garg said. "Our car can help in bringing down pollution levels. It can be used in the night as well as a battery has been provided," said Sanyam Agarwal, Project Director. Agarwal added that India has enough sunlight around the year, thus the car can be widely used in rural areas.
What are specifications and features of "Negen"?
The students said solar cars for one or two people have been developed abroad, but theirs can easily seat four. The maximum speed is 30 kmph, more than enough for cities like Agra with perpetual traffic snarls, the students said. The operational costs and the maintenance expenses are low and the spare parts are easily available, they added.
'Negen' will reduce dependence on fuel, check emissions
"If solar cars become popular, our dependence on petrol and diesel will reduce and emissions will remain under control," Akash Gupta, the team leader, said.
