The instant messaging giant keeps on adding new, interesting and interactive features to the platform, that you might not be aware of. Here are 8 WhatsApp tricks you perhaps didn't know existed.
How to unsend messages, and control data usage
Unsend messages: You can 'unsend' a message by tapping and holding it, then clicking on the delete button, and selecting 'Delete for Everyone' option. Just be aware that the recipients may have seen your message before it's deleted. Data usage: Open WhatsApp, then go to Settings > Data Usage, and select what does and does not get automatically downloaded, to control data usage.
How to disable blue ticks and hide 'last seen' option
Blue ticks: The blue ticks let users know whether their messages have been read or not. To disable blue ticks, go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Read Receipts, and uncheck the corresponding box. Hide 'last seen' display: If you don't want others to see your 'last seen' time, go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen, to disable the same.
How to enable custom notifications; format your texts
Custom notifications: If you're awaiting an important message from a contact, you can set custom notification for them by opening the chat, tapping their name at the top and clicking on 'Custom Tone'. (for iOS) Text formatting: To format your text with options like bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace, just highlight your text by selecting it, then choose the relevant option in pop-up menu.
How to mark chats as unread; pin important chats
Mark unread: In case, you've read the messages from a chat, but can't reply right away, you can set 'unread' it. Just right swipe the chat, and select 'Unread'. Pin chats: Users can pin upto three of their WhatsApp contacts and groups to the top of their list by simply right-swipping the chat, then hitting the 'pin' icon.
