At Rs. 50lakh, Sony's TV costs more than a BMW
Like foldable phones are grabbing eyeballs on the smartphone side, 8K OLED TVs are making headlines in the TV world. Sony has released the pricing and availability information on its entire 2019 TV line-up and one of the top-end models costs more than a luxurious BMW. Sony's 98-inch 8K OLED model is priced at $70,000 (approximately Rs. 50 lakh). Here's all about this model.
About Sony's 98-inch Z9G Master Series 8K OLED Android TV
Weighing just over 100kg (94.2kg without stand), Sony's top-end 98-inch Z9G Master Series model offers a 98-inch 8K OLED display with 7680x4320 pixel resolution, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision support. Powered by the company's in-house X1 Ultimate processor, the TV runs on Android TV OS and offers 16GB of internal storage for apps. Further, you also get all the latest connectivity options and ports.
The TV packs eight 10W speakers, multiples woofers and tweeters
For a literal room-filling sound, this ultra-luxe 98-inch TV packs a total of eight 10W speakers including four tweeters, eight woofers, and four sub-woofers. Moreover, it also supports Dolby Audio, DTS Digital Surround, and Voice Search, thanks to the built-in mic support.
Sony claims this TV can upscale content to 8K resolution
Considering 8K content isn't readily available, the 98-inch Z9G relies on the X1 Ultimate picture processor to upscale content for 8K experience. Sony claims that the TV can upscale 2K or 4K signal to "closer to true 8K" by using the dedicated 8K X-Reality™ PRO upscaling technology. Lastly, you also get a Netflix Calibrated Mode, IMAX Enhanced mode, AirPlay 2 compatibility, and Alexa support.
Meanwhile, there's also a much cheaper 85-inch 8K Z9G model
At $70,000 or roughly Rs. 50 lakh, the 98-inch Z9G Master Series 8K OLED model is only for wealthy viewers. However, there's also an equally capable Z9G 85-inch model which costs a merciful $13,000 or about Rs. 9 lakh. There's also a new A9G 4K OLED range which starts at $3,500 (Rs. 2.44 lakh) for the 55-inch model.
