Apple's upcoming 6.1-inch iPhone will feature ultra-small bezels: Report

    What's the story

We all know that Apple's 2018 iPhone line up will have 3 iPhones - two featuring OLED displays and a third cheaper variant with an LCD display.

It has now been reported that the cheaper variant, which will sport a 6.1-inch screen, will come with ultra-small bezels, thanks to the 'Full Active LCD' to be developed by Japan Display.

    Here's more on this development.

    Design

The 6.1-inch iPhone may get as small as 0.5mm bezels

According to a report by a Japanese website Macotakara, the 6.1-inch iPhone model will feature a 'Full Active Display' LCD manufactured by Japan Display.

These LCD panels, unlike typical LCD panels, require very thin borders and can be curved to offer as small as 0.5mm bezels (iPhone X has 1mm bezels).

Hence, Full Active Displays will allow for a four-sided narrow frame.

    Information

Interestingly, previous reports held a contrary view: No slim bezels

Earlier, purported glass panels of the 2018 iPhones appeared online, highlighting that the LCD iPhone will have thicker bezels than the OLED variants. And this is something contradictory to what Macotakara has suggested. However, being a cheaper variant, the 6.1-inch iPhone may get prominent bezels.

    Production woes

Macotakara says the LCD iPhone may launch in November

Macotakara suggests the LCD iPhone may not get launched along with the OLED models as Apple is facing production issues with this variant.

The report adds that while mass-production for the 6.1-inch iPhone has started, the "perfect product rate" is far lower than what the tech giant had intended.

Thus, Apple is said to delay the launch of the LCD iPhone to November.
