Apple has finally updated its long-forgotten MacBook Air with a Retina display, updated internals and all-new chassis made from 100% recycled aluminum. Alongside, the tech giant has all unveiled its most-advanced iPad Pro with an iPhone X-inspired design with slimmer bezels, Face ID, A12X Bionic chipset, and USB Type-C port. Notably, Apple has also updated its Apple Pencil. Here's everything about these products.
2018 Apple MacBook Air: At a glance
The refreshed MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch Retina display (2560x1600) with 50% narrower bezels and is lighter than the outgoing model. It is powered by the 8th-generation Intel dual-core Intel Core i5 with integrated graphics, paired with upto 16GB of RAM, and upto 1.5TB SSD storage. The new device comes with Touch ID for secure login and Apple-designed T2 chip that offers on-device encryption.
New Apple MacBook gets two Thunderbolt ports and headphone jack
The new MacBook Air comes with two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Additionally, these USB-C /Thunderbolt ports can be used to connect an external 5K display or power the notebook with an eGPU external graphics unit. Further, Apple has offered its third-generation Butterfly keyboard seen on latest MacBook Pros, along with a ForceTouch trackpad. In the US, MacBook Air starts at $1,199.
2018 Apple iPad Pro: At a glance
Apple has also unveiled its redesigned iPad Pro with an edge-to-edge display, Face ID, USB Type C-port and iPhone X-like gesture navigation. The new iPad Pro comes in 12.9-inch and 11-inch sizes with an all-new Liquid Retina LCD display, 7MP TrueDepth front camera, and a 12MP rear camera. Powering the tablets is an Apple-designed 7nm A12X Bionic chipset with 8-core CPU and 7-core GPU.
New Apple Pencil and an all-new USB Type-C port
The new iPad Pro gets a USB Type-C port which allows the tablet to connect to a 5K display, or external cameras. You can even charge your smartphone using that. Further, the Apple Pencil has also been redesigned. It will now magnetically attach to the iPad and charge wirelessly. It also comes with customizable gesture support that allows switching between tools and other productivity actions.
Apple iPad Pro: Pricing
The 2018 iPad Pro starts at $799 for the 11-inch model and $999 for the 12.9-inch. Both the models are available in 64GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options, and in Silver and Space Gray colors.
Additionally, iOS 12.1 with Group FaceTime, dual-SIM support coming today
Apple is also rolling out the iOS 12.1 update today to all the compatible devices. The new OS will bring Group FaceTime feature, support for dual-SIM cards on the latest iPhones, and over 70 new emojis. Moreover, iOS 12.1 will also add the ability to adjust depth in Portrait mode while the Music app gets daily top-100 songs, and the option to search for songs by lyrics.
