'Star-campaigner' Adityanath downplays Hindi-heartland losses, speaks on Congress 'lies'
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who campaigned for the BJP relentlessly in the assembly elections, downplayed the win of Congress and said their lies would start getting unraveling soon. Speaking during a press conference at Patna's Mahavir temple on Wednesday, Adityanath said the road from here is easier for BJP. Notably, the BJP lost Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh to Congress on Tuesday.
"When they lose they start worshiping EVMs"
The firebrand leader said winning and losing was part of democracy and it was important to keep fighting. Taking potshots at the Congress, he said, "We never bask in our victories while blaming our defeats on electronic voting machines (EVMs), unlike our rivals who practice serious double standards in this regard." He added when Congress loses they start 'worshiping the EVMs'.
Never said anything about Hanuman's caste: Adityanath
Moving on, Adityanath also dismissed theories which claimed his statements, particularly the one in which he said Lord Hanuman was a Dalit, hurt BJP's prospects. He said, "I did not say anything about Bajrang Bali's caste. I only said that Lord Hanuman resides in spirituality, and spirituality exists in people of all caste." Reportedly, Adityanath's poll strike rate was less than 50%.
Amit Shah will chair a meeting to take stock
The Congress managed to halt the saffron surge in the nation, although, in MP and Rajasthan, the expectations of clean sweep fell flat. Reportedly, BJP National President Amit Shah will chair a meeting later today to take stock of the losses. He will also chalk out a plan for 2019. The meeting will be attended by state Presidents and state in-charges of BJP.
