Former Shiv Sena corporator Ashok Sawant stabbed to death
On Sunday, Shiv Sena leader Ashok Sawant was stabbed to death outside his home. Sawant had gone to meet a friend. Two unidentified men were reportedly waiting for him. When he returned at 11pm, the two men attacked him with knives, about 200mts from his house. Bystanders immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. Who is Ashok Sawant?
Sixty-two year old Ashok Sawant was a two-time Shiv Sena corporator from Samta Nagar. He is assistant police commissioner Subhash Sawant's brother. Subhash Sawant is attached to the Anti-terrorism squad. Sawant is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
Why was Ashok Sawant killed?
The motive for Sawant's murder is still unknown. However, Sawant had joined the cable television business few years back. Recently, he was receiving extortion calls. Reports claim the murder may be connected to these threats. Meanwhile, after going through the CCTV footage, the police have allegedly identified one assailant as Jagga, a well-known criminal. But, no arrests have been made so far.
