CBI raids Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia's residence
A CBI team reached Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia's house at noon on June 16. Initially, media reported raids, but CBI denied it, saying they were seeking clarification over the AAP's 'Talk to AK' campaign. In January, the CBI had launched a preliminary enquiry against Sisodia for alleged irregularities in the project. Afterwards, Sisodia had said he was expecting raids.
The birth of 'Talk to AK' and allegations of irregularities
In July'16, on the footsteps of PM Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of his interactive program, 'Talk to AK', which started airing from July 17. The party reportedly proposed hiring a famous PR company for its promotion. It is alleged that despite the principal secretary's objection, the government went ahead with the move.
No raids allowed in a PE
A Preliminary Enquiry (PE) was launched against Sisodia and others in January based on a complaint by the Vigilance Department of the Delhi government. According to rules, no raid or search is allowed in a PE.
Media advisors of Kejriwal, Sisodia hit out at 'caged parrot'
Reacting to the development, Sisodia's media advisor Arunoday Prakash tweeted: "If they think Manish Sisodia will get afraid and stop working for schools after CBI raids, they are mistaken!" Kejriwal's media advisor Nagender Sharma also slammed the move: "When not a penny was spent on 'Talk to AK' program, how does CBI come into the picture? Caged parrot not briefed properly by masters again."
